Language bridge · plurilingual and intercultural

Use every language you know to learn English, and use English to understand other people.

English ↔ SpanishNotice the difference

Countable / uncountable: some apples (count) · some rice (no count). Spanish works almost the same.

Other languagesFrench · Portuguese · Italian · German

Canada has two official languages, so menus can be in English and French: pain = bread · fromage = cheese · poulet = chicken.

Observe, compare, reflectIntercultural

Poutine and maple syrup (Canada) and baleadas (Honduras): describe a typical dish without saying one food is «weird».

Mediation challengeBuild a bridge for someone

Explain a bilingual menu item to a friend who doesn't read French or English.

Your languages count: ask at home or in your community how to say it in Garífuna, Miskitu, the English of the Bay Islands or any other language you know, and add it to your glossary. Add it to «My languages» in your Passport →
