Assignment: Recommending a restaurant and a balanced menu

Activity 3 · 3%
What you bring
From the H5P: the mistakes you corrected. Now you use the rule alone to create something that is yours.
What this prepares you for
The quiz «Menu vocabulary, countable / uncountable and some / any check» checks this lesson's can-do statements.
Written product80–100 words + a balanced menuLevel 2 · AI to review your own text

Your product

Recommend a restaurant (real menu from an official site) and design a balanced menu: starter, main, drink. Explain your choices.

Also include: 1 element of your career · 1 cultural comparison with Honduras about Canadian Grand Prix (Formula 1) · your Source card.

Builds on your earlier work

Reuse the quantities and prices from your English II final video.

Leads to

In Act. 7 you order or book at this restaurant.

Activity 7 · Ordering a meal or booking a table: role-play or online order

Model

I recommend Maple Café in Toronto. The menu has some vegetarian options and the prices are good. My balanced menu: vegetable soup, chicken with rice and a glass of water. There isn't any sugar in it and it has protein.

A model, not a template: your product is about you, your career and your own sources.

Learn before you do it

What a good product has

  1. Opening: greet the reader or say what your text is about (1 sentence).
  2. Body: the information the task asks for, in short sentences with the language of the lesson.
  3. Career and culture: one sentence about your career and one comparison with Honduras.
  4. Closing: a short final sentence. Then your Source card.

The language you need · Countable / uncountable + some / any

Countable: an egg, two burgers. Uncountable: rice, bread, water (no plural). some (+), any (− / ?). How much + uncountable, how many + countable.

  • The menu has some vegetarian options.
  • There isn't any sugar in this drink.
  • How many dishes are there on the menu?

Your career in this assignment

Write about your career (its exact name in the UNAH Oferta Académica). Choose the example of your area and change it:

  • Health sciences: A balanced meal has some vegetables, some protein and some rice.
  • Engineering & technology: The app shows how much sugar there is in each dish.
  • Business & economics: The restaurant sells two hundred burgers a day.
  • Education, humanities & communication: The menu is in English and French in Montreal.
  • Environment, agriculture & tourism: There isn't any plastic packaging in this café.

Use 3 words of your career glossary.

Cultural connection · II PAC

Event of this week: Canadian Grand Prix (Formula 1) (May 21 – 23 (provisional)). See it in your II PAC Cultural Passport.

Your cultural mission: The Canadian Grand Prix is in Montreal. Find a typical dish (poutine) and describe what's in it.

Mirror Honduras: Which island in Honduras is famous? (Roatán, Utila, Guanaja…)

Include one comparison between Canada and Honduras: one similarity and one difference.

Be respectful: say «In my experience…» or «In my city…», not «All Americans…» or «All Hondurans…». Need ideas? Ask SofIA Cultural.

Tools and tutorials

Step by step

  1. Collect your earlier products (list above) and review the class of this lesson (steps 1 and 3).
  2. Write a first draft on your own (80–100 words + a balanced menu), without AI.
  3. Review it with SofIA: ask for hints, not for a new text (AI level 2).
  4. Check it with the rubric and the «I can…» list below.
  5. Write your final version.
  6. Submit on the UNAH Virtual Campus: your product + Source card + your prompt and chat link.

How to submit your product

Written product

Write it in the text box of the assignment, or upload it as PDF or Word (Google Docs: File → Download → PDF).

Always add your Source card and, if you used SofIA, your prompt and the chat link. Check that every link opens in a private window before you submit.

Career program (transversal project)

Write a short description of your career (2 sentences) and 5 new words.

Add it to your career program file. It grows in every lesson.

Source card

Find your own reliable source (official, professional or university site of Canada). These are examples. Write: name of the site, link, country, type of site, why it is reliable and what you learned.

Ficha de fuente: en Inglés III buscas tu propia fuente oficial (gobierno, asociación, universidad, museo) de Canadá. Escribe su nombre, enlace, país y tipo.

Total20 points = 3% of your final grade (Activity 3). 0 points if not submitted.

How your points become your grade: 20/20 pts = 3% · 15/20 pts = 2.25% · 10/20 pts = 1.5% · 5/20 pts = 0.75%.

Competency reached: 13/20 points (65/100) or more. Competency-based grading scale

Your result, two ways

Your teacher decides which one the course uses. Pass mark: 65 %.

1 · Percentage (summative)

your rubric points × 5 (20 points = 100) × the weight of the activity.
Example: 70 % in this activity (3 %) = 2.1 % of your final grade.

2 · Competency level

  • 0–39 N1 · not reached
  • 40–54 N2 · partly reached
  • 55–64 N3 · almost reached
  • 65–79 N4 · competency reached
  • 80–89 N5 · reached with distinction
  • 90–94 N6 · excellence
